Rex Nelson Biography

Rex Nelson holds the position of Senior Vice President and Director of Corporate Communications at Simmons First National Corporation, a role he has held since May 2015. Before joining Simmons, he served as President of AICU starting in January 2011 and as Senior Vice President for government relations and public outreach at The Communications Group. Throughout his career, Nelson has held senior-level positions in state and federal governments. He has become an expert on Arkansas history, Southern culture, and politics. Nelson is a well-known media figure and has appeared on radio and television stations across the country. He writes a weekly column for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. His feature stories are in magazines such as Arkansas Life and Talk Business & Politics. In addition to his professional work, Nelson is heavily involved in various organizations and community activities. He has held leadership roles in the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame Foundation, the Oxford American literary quarterly, and Connect Arkansas. He is also the chairman of the Political Animals Club of Little Rock, the vice president of the board of the Arkansas Travelers Baseball Club Inc., the vice president of the Little Rock Touchdown Club, and a member of the Arkansas Humanities Council, the Arkansas Natural and Cultural Resources Council, and the advisory board of the Pryor Center for Arkansas Oral and Visual History. Nelson was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve on the Delta Regional Authority, a regional planning and economic development agency, where he served in a full-time position for four years. Additionally, he has served as the radio voice for the Ouachita football team at Ouachita Baptist University for over three decades. He graduated summa cum laude from Ouachita Baptist University.
