In 1989, he won the stand-up comedy competition at the prestigious San Francisco International Comedy Competition, which propelled him to national fame. Romano became best known for his role as Ray Barone in the popular CBS sitcom "Everybody Loves Raymond," which aired from 1996 to 2005.
