Ravi Howard Biography

Ravi Howard is an American author, journalist, and screenwriter. Howard graduated from Howard University and received an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Virginia. Howard's debut novel, "Like Trees, Walking" (2007), is a fictionalized account of the 1981 lynching of Michael Donald in Mobile, Alabama. The novel won the Ernest J. Gaines Award for Literary Excellence. It was a finalist for the Hemingway Foundation/PEN Award. Howard's second novel, "Driving the King" (2015), is a fictionalized account of Nat King Cole's friendship with a white man from Montgomery, Alabama. In addition to his work as a novelist, Howard is an accomplished journalist and screenwriter. He has written for publications such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Esquire. He has been a contributing producer for This American Life. He has also worked on the writing staff of "The Equalizer" and "The Americans." Howard has received numerous awards and honors for his work, including National Endowment for the Arts and the Hurston/Wright Foundation fellowships. He teaches at the University of Alabama as an English and Creative Writing professor.
