Rami Nashashibi Biography

Rami Nashashibi is a Palestinian-American community organizer and scholar based in Chicago. He is the founding director of the Inner-City Muslim Action Network (IMAN). This non-profit organization works on social justice issues in the inner-city Muslim community. Nashashibi was born in Chicago to Palestinian parents and spent much of his childhood in Jordan before returning to the United States for college. He received his undergraduate degree in Sociology and Arabic from the University of Chicago. He later earned a Ph.D. in Sociology from the same institution. As director of IMAN, Nashashibi has been involved in various community initiatives, including campaigns for affordable housing, food justice, and criminal justice reform. He has also been active in interfaith dialogue and has spoken out against Islamophobia and other forms of discrimination. Nashashibi received numerous awards and honors for his work, including the prestigious MacArthur "Genius" Grant in 2017.
