Raj Panjabi is a Liberian-American physician and social entrepreneur who is the CEO and co-founder of Last Mile Health. This non-profit organization brings healthcare to the most remote communities in Africa. Born in Liberia, Panjabi fled the country with his family at 9 due to the First Liberian Civil War. He later attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry and a Doctor of Medicine. Panjabi’s passion for global health led him to work in several African countries, including Lesotho, where he worked as a clinician and epidemiologist during the HIV/AIDS epidemic. In 2007, he founded Last Mile Health to save lives in the world’s most remote communities. The organization trains and deploys community health workers to provide care in regions typically underserved by healthcare systems. Panjabi’s work has earned him numerous awards and recognitions, including being named one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People and a MacArthur Fellow. He is also a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and a member of the U.S. Department of State’s Foreign Affairs Policy Board. Through his work at Last Mile Health, Panjabi continues to significantly impact global health and social justice.
