Rachel Pike Biography

Rachel Pike is a climate scientist and science communicator. She earned her Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Cambridge in 2009, focusing on atmospheric chemistry and climate science. Pike is currently the Executive Director of the Berkeley Institute for Data Science (BIDS), which brings together researchers from across the UC Berkeley campus to advance data science methodologies and applications. Before joining BIDS, Pike was a Science and Technology Policy Fellow at the American Association for the Advancement of Science, where she worked on implementing the President's Climate Action Plan. She has also served as the Deputy Director of the Harvard University Center for the Environment, where she worked on climate science research and science communication initiatives. In addition to her research and policy work, Pike is also an experienced science communicator. She has given numerous talks and presentations on climate and data science topics. She is a regular contributor to the TEDx program.
