Plies Biography

On July 1, 1976, Algernod Lanier Washington aka Plies was born. The rapper got his stage name “Plies” from hometown Fort Myers that used to call most money-making drug dealers by the slang. Plies, a rapper from Fort Myers, Florida assisted people in becoming successful in the music industry but didn't know his talent was craved by the industry. 'The Real Testament‘ his debut album sold more than 96,000 units in the first week of its release, kicking Common off the number #2 spot on Billboard Hot 200. Before then, his first single 'Shawty' featuring T-Pain went to #10 in Billboard Singles Chart, earning him a remarkable reputation. Next he released a new single 'Hypnotized' which was produced by legendary producer and artist, Akon. He grew up in the small stateside of East Dunbar and decided to chase his passion for music upon graduating from Fort Myers High School in 1994. He was obsessed with rap music and joined his older brother Ronell Levatte in the running of Big Gates Record, an indie label which house three artists except him.. After the original artist couldn't get the ‘hook,’ Plies recited the lyrics of ‘Tell Dem Krackers Dat,’ and brother produced his version of the hit and it became a mixtape. “It wasn't a dream of mine,” Plies said. “It kind of happened accidentally. But at the same time, I'm a believer that nothing happens on accident.” Slip N' Slide Records signed him after listening to ‘Tell Dem Krackers Dat’ and he then went on to release his first single ‘Got 'Em Hatin’ which was a street and club banger that made him more popular. He became friends with Akon in 2006 who was working on his album ‘Konvicted’ album at the time. Together they recorded hit song 'I Wanna Fuck You' which was written by Plies. In July 2006, Plies was involved in a shooting incident that cost him the song.
