Peter Northouse Biography

Peter G. Northouse, Ph.D., is Professor Emeritus of Communication at Western Michigan University's School of Communication. He is the author of one of the world's best-selling leadership textbooks, Leadership: Theory and Practice 9e. He is the author of Introduction to Leadership: Concepts and Practice (now in its fifth edition) and co-author of Leadership Case Studies in Education (now in its third edition) and Health Communication: Strategies for Health Professionals (both now in their third editions) (now in its third edition). Models of leadership, leadership evaluation, responsible leadership, and leadership and community dynamics are among his academic and curricular interests. He has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in teamwork, interpersonal relations, and corporate communication at both the undergraduate and graduate levels for more than 30 years. He is currently a consultant and lecturer on current developments in leadership science, growth, and education. He graduated from Michigan State University with a master's and bachelor's degree in communication studies, as well as a doctorate in speech communication from the University of Denver.
