Omar Apollo stands as a Grammy-nominated American singer-songwriter and actor who unites R&B with soul and funk and Latin musical elements. The Mexican immigrant parents of Omar Apollo raised him in Hobart Indiana where he first discovered music through his church choir and their favorite artists including Pedro Infante, Los Panchos and The Beatles. At age 12 he started learning guitar through YouTube tutorials before joining his church choir and participating in ballet folklĂłrico which formed his diverse musical personality.
The release of "Ugotme" on Spotify in 2017 became his first breakthrough which led to the release of his debut EP Stereo in 2018. He released his second album Friends in 2019 followed by the mixtape Apolonio in 2020. The music industry praised his debut studio album Ivory (2022) which earned him a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. The album contained the popular TikTok hit "Evergreen" which spread widely across the platform.
