Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is a worldwide famous Nigerian economist best known for her two stints as Nigeria's Finance Minister and her work at the World Bank, where she served as a Managing Director for several years (October 2007–July 2011). In 2006, she served as Nigeria's Foreign Minister for a short time. She presently works at Banque Lazard as a Senior Advisor. On April 16, 2012, it was revealed that she had lost her campaign for the World Bank presidency to the United States' choice, Jim Yong Kim. This result had been largely expected. This was, however, the first contested election for World Bank president since the Gentlemen's Agreement, which stipulated that the US would pick the World Bank president and Europe would appoint the IMF managing director, expired in 2010.
