When Nadya Okamoto was 16 years old, she created PERIOD because her own family had experienced home instability. Over 800 college chapters were registered in all 50 states and 50 other countries while PERIOD addressed over 1.5 million periods throughout her five years as Executive Director. Okamoto co-founded August, a lifestyle company that seeks to reinvent eras, in the early 2020s. She recently earned her Harvard College degree. Period Power: A Manifesto for the Menstrual Movement, written by Okamoto and released by Simon & Schuster recently, was named the Best Young Adult Nonfiction of 2018 by Kirkus Reviews. She is listed in the most recent cohorts of the Forbes 30 under 30, Bloomberg 50 "Ones to Watch," and People Magazine's Women Changing the World lists for her leadership of PERIOD. The youngest Asian American to ever run for office in the US, Okamoto, 19, ran for public office in Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 2017. Period Power: A Manifesto for the Menstrual Movement, which Nadya released in 2018, made the Kirkus Reviews list of the year's best young adult nonfiction. In addition, Nadya served as the Chief Brand Officer and a member of the board of JUV Consulting, a Generation Z marketing firm with headquarters in New York City.
