Miroslav Volf Biography

Miroslav Volf (born September 25, 1956) is a Croatian Protestant theologian and public thinker who is widely regarded as one of the world's most prominent theologians. Volf is presently the Henry B. Wright Professor of Theology at Yale Divinity School and the Director of Yale University's Yale Center for Faith and Culture. Volf formerly taught at Osijek's Evangelical Theological Seminary (1979–80, 1983–90) and Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California (1990–1998). Volf has constructed a theology that has won him the title of "theologian of the bridge" after receiving two advanced degrees from German theologian Jürgen Moltmann. His theology is primarily concerned with applying Christian theology to many aspects of public life, including culture, politics, and economics. He is interested in conversations amongst many groups throughout the world, such as denominations, religions, and ethnic groups. Volf has worked as a consultant for the White House Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships and co-taught a globalization class at Yale with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair for several years. In major media channels like as CNN, NPR, and Al Jazeera, he is a regular commentator on religious and cultural topics. Volf received the Grawemeyer Award in Religion in 2002 from the University of Louisville and the Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, and his 1996 book Exclusion and Embrace was selected as one of Christianity Today's 100 Most Influential Books of the Twentieth Century.
