In 1995 she landed the role of Leslie a happy-go-lucky prostitute in Mighty Aphrodite which launched her into stardom and won her an Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress.Sorvino continued to appear in numerous TV Series and films including Norma Jean and Marilyn (1996) Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion (1997) Summer of Sam (1999) Human Trafficking (2005) Reservation Road (2007) Trade of Innocents (2012) and Union Square (2012).In 2014 she reappeared as Head Detective Betsy Brannigan on the final season of Psych and played pivotal roles in Intruders for BBC America Falling Skies Stalker (2015) and Beneath The Leaves (2019). In 2018 she was cast in a recurring role on Emmy Award winning ABC series Modern Family the 20th Century Fox film Stuber (2019) and began production on the film Butter in 2019."
