Milenko Matanovic Biography

Milenko Matanovic is a community organizer, visual artist, and the founder of Pomegranate Center, a space where art, public engagement, and community improvement collide. Matanovic helps the creation and building of open-air meeting areas through Pomegranate Center, including community members in all aspects of the project. Matanovic supervised architectural students from four nations in the development of parks in China, Russia, Mexico, and the United States, in partnership with artist James Hubbell. Matanovic has designed and led strategic planning sessions, leadership summits, and design workshops for dozens of communities across the country internationally. Multiple Victories—Pomegranate Center's Art of Creating Community-Built Gathering Places is his most recent book. In 2005, he received the Home Magazine Shelter Award for his innovative efforts to improve the social well-being of communities around the country. In 2009, he won the Center for Ethical Leadership's Leadership Legacy Award, and in 1997, he got the Leadership Award from The Evergreen State Society in Washington State.
