Mike Bullard did what no other Canadian had done before: he presented the first really successful nightly talk show in Canada. Open Mike was one of the longest-running late-night discussion shows in North America, having aired for six seasons. The Gemini Award-winning series was the most-watched late-night talk show in Canada's largest market, rivaling late-night giants Letterman and Leno in terms of popularity and success. Bullard is a multi-disciplinary comic who has written a book, Open Book: Little Thoughts from a Big Head and released a CD, Stick 2 Comedy. He is one of Canada's most well-known celebrities. Bullard, who was named "Favourite Talk Show Host" by TV Guide readers, has come a long way from the grind of Canada's comedy club circuit, where he cultivated a reputation as one of the country's quickest and cleverest club wits for over a decade. Bullard, a Mississauga, Ontario native, worked full-time jobs while also pursuing his comedy career, performing over 1400 gigs in his spare time. Bullard really resigned his day job as a manager at one of the country's largest businesses only weeks before Open Mike debuted in the fall of 1997. Open Mike first aired on The Comedy Network in November of 1997. Bullard's razor-sharp, often self-deprecating humor, perceptive digs at the human condition, and ability to engage in unscripted discussion with audience members made Open Mike a favorite with television viewers, and he appeared on both networks. In a national poll in 2002, he was named one of the Top 10 Funniest Canadians. Bullard remains a Canadian "everyman," constantly working on behalf of hundreds of organizations and giving back to the community, despite his prosperity. He performs approximately 150 engagements each year for charities such as The United Way, Big Brothers and Sisters, Foster Parents Plan, Casey House, The Humane Society, and the Hospital for Sick Children, to name a few. Bullard is now working on Alimony, a game show for divorced individuals, for which he has a co-production contract with Just for Laughs. Monday through Friday, he may be heard on CHAM 820 TALK RADIO.
