Miguel Biography

Before Miguel, a singer, songwriter, and producer recorded his first hit single and rose to prominence as one of pop-most R&B's most important performers, he spent a few years working behind the scenes and dabbling in the public eye. The 16-year-old resident of San Pedro, California, worked for the production business Drop Squad. Three years later, he was given the chance to join Fatty Koo and even take part in their BET reality program, but he declined and instead chose to sign with the Black Ice record company. Getcha Hands Up! was released as a song in 2006, and BET aired the music video. Young & Free, is an album that was to have been distributed by Universal but never released. By that time, he had established a solid reputation in the underground thanks to his collaborations with Blu, Exile, and Daz-I-Kue. In 2007, Miguel secured a solo contract with Jive and proceeded to collaborate with a variety of major-label and underground musicians, such as Johnson&Johnson and Asher Roth. He co-wrote Finding My Way Back by Jaheim, which received a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Song. In 2010, Usher released Raymond v. Raymond, which included two songs he co-wrote, right before he released All I Want Is You, which reached the Top Ten on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs list. In November of that year, the same-titled album was released and peaked at number 40 on the Billboard 200 and in the top ten on the R&B Albums list. It continued to succeed thanks to Sure Thing (number one R&B, number 36 on the Billboard 200), and Quickie (number three R&B). Miguel's second album, Kaleidoscope Dream, was released in October 2012, shortly after its lead single, Adorn, earned his second number one R&B single. The album was preceded by a trilogy of three-song EPs titled Art Dealer Chic (Vols. 1, 2, and 3), as well as two teaser EPs. Adorn was nominated for three Grammys, including one for Best R&B Song, while Kaleidoscope Dream received a nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album. How Many Drinks? from the album was also nominated the following year. Mariah Carey and I collaborated on the platinum-selling song #Beautiful, which was released in May 2013. Prior to the release of Miguel's third album, Wildheart, in June 2015, appearances on albums by J. Cole, Big Sean, Jessie Ware, Santana, Ludacris, A$AP Rocky, and Hudson Mohawke were made. It debuted within the Top Five of the Billboard 200, similar to his last album. Kurupt (NWA) and Lenny Kravitz (facing the sun) made guest performances on the Grammy-nominated album Wildheart, which was up for Best Urban Contemporary Album. Miguel collaborated with Travi$ Scott on the song Sky Walker, which was released in 2017 after a tour with Sia and a duet with Dua Lipa.
