Michael Mazzeo Biography

Michael J. Mazzeo is a Faculty Associate at Northwestern University's Institute for Policy Research and an Associate Professor in the Department of Strategy. He is a member of the Review of Industrial Organization's editorial board. Mazzeo's research is concerned with empirical industrial organization, specifically the impact of differentiation and endogenous product choice in company strategy and market competitiveness. His research has centered on the development of novel statistical techniques for analyzing the impact of product differentiation in marketplaces and quantifying these effects in industrial studies. Mazzeo has written papers for the airline, banking, health care, hotel, retail, and telecommunications businesses based on his study. He is also a co-author of the book Roadside MBA: Backroad Lessons for Entrepreneurs, Executives, and Small Business Owners, which was published recently. Mazzeo teaches Kellogg's MBA and EMBA programs' fundamental curriculum in Business Strategy. He has won the Chairs' Core Course Teaching Award three times. He's also the academic director of Kellogg's competitive strategy executive program, which is accessible to anybody. After earning his Ph.D. in economics from Stanford University, he joined the faculty in 1998.
