Michael Mauboussin Biography

Preceding joining Counterpoint Global, Michael was Director of Research at BlueMountain Capital, Head of Global Financial Strategies at Credit Suisse, and Chief Investment Strategist at Legg Mason Capital Management. Michael initially joined CS in 1992 as a food industry examiner and was named Chief U.S. Speculation Strategist in 1999. He is a former leader of the Consumer Analyst Group of New York and was consistently named to Institutional Investor's All-America Research Team and The Wall Street Journal All-Star study in the food business group. Michael is the creator of The Success Equation: Untangling Skill and Luck in Business, Sports, and Investing, Think Twice: Harnessing the Power of Counterintuition (Harvard Business Press, 2009) and More Than You Know: Finding Financial Wisdom in Unconventional Places-Updated and Expanded (New York: Columbia Business School Publishing, 2008). Michael has been an assistant teacher of finance at Columbia Business School since 1993 and is on the workforce of the Heilbrunn Center for Graham and Dodd Investing. He got the Dean's Award for Teaching Excellence in 2009 and 2016. BusinessWeek's Guide to the Best Business Schools featured Michael as one of the school's "Remarkable Faculty," a differentiation got by just seven teachers. Michael procured an A.B. from Georgetown University. He is the executive of the leading group of trustees of the Santa Fe Institute, the main place for multi-disciplinary examination in complex systems hypothesis.
