Michael Flynn Biography

Michael Thomas Flynn was born on December 24, 1958. He is a retired U.S Army general who served as the Trump administration's 25th National Security Advisor for the first 22 days. In light of accusations that he lied about discussions with Sergey Kislyak, he resigned. In the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, Flynn played a major role in developing US counterterrorism policy and destroying insurgent networks, and he was assigned to a variety of combat weapons, standard, and special operations senior intelligence posts. From July 2012 until his forced retirement from the military in August 2014, he served as the 18th head of the Defense Intelligence Agency. During his service, he was the first American official to be permitted to the Moscow headquarters of the Russian military intelligence agency GRU, where he gave a lecture on leading. After leaving the service, he founded Flynn Intel Group in October 2014, which provides intelligence services to corporations and governments throughout the world, including Turkey. Flynn was offered $45,000 to give a lecture in Moscow at the ten-year anniversary party of RT, a state-controlled Russian international television network, where he sat at the dinner table adjacent to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Flynn joined Trump's 2016 campaign for president as a national security adviser in February 2016. Flynn retroactively registered as a foreign agent in March 2017, recognizing that he had engaged in paid lobbying activities in 2016 that may have benefitted Turkey's leadership. Flynn was appointed as National Security Advisor on January 22, 2017. After information surfaced that he had deceived Vice President Mike Pence and others about the nature and quality of his conversations with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak, he resigned on February 13, 2017. Flynn served as National Security Advisor for the shortest period of time in the position's existence. Flynn reached an agreement with Special Counsel Robert Mueller in December 2017 to plead guilty to a felony count of "willfully and intentionally" providing false information to the FBI about the Kislyak contacts and to assist with the prosecution. In June 2019, Flynn fired his lawyers and hired Sidney Powell, who wrote to Attorney General Bill Barr the same day, requesting his help in discrediting Flynn. Powell had spoken to President Trump about the matter on many occasions and had addressed it on Fox News. Flynn swore allegiance to the pro-Trump QAnon conspiracy theory on July 4, 2020, and as Trump tried to reverse the votes of the 2020 presidential election, Flynn recommended suspending the Constitution, silencing the press, and holding a new election under military power. Later, in the Oval Office, Flynn met with Trump and their lawyer Powell to examine the president's possibilities. Trump rejected that the notion of martial law proposed by Flynn had been considered. Twitter banned indefinitely Flynn, Powell, and others who supported QAnon on January 8, 2021.
