Michael Costello Biography

Michael Costello originally competed on Season 8 of Project Runway coming in 4th place. He was followed by accusations and controversy throughout the season and is most known for no formal training and his signature draping style. Michael (Project Runway 8) earns his living as a fashion designer. He currently lives in Palm Springs California but is originally from Los Angeles California. Michael Costello says he picked out the fabric for the first garment that he ever designed and a seamstress named Esperonza whipped it up for him in one day. He has been been designing and sketching ever since he was 4 years old. He has never had any formal training. He learned how to sew by hand from his mother and then on his industrial machine. He won the 2009 Project ASID Award with Dorothy Willets for a dress made from upholstery and wallpaper. When asked about past jobs he says he has always been in fashion although he has worked in a few restaurant kitchens too.
