Michael Chui Biography

Dr. Michael Chui is a partner of McKinsey's business and economics research arm, the McKinsey Global Institute (MGI). He is the director of research into the effects of disruptive technology and innovation on business, the economy, and society. Michael has directed McKinsey research in areas such as data and analytics, social and collaborative technologies, the Internet of Things, and artificial intelligence, robots, and automation. Michael is a regular speaker at major international conferences, and his work has been referenced in prestigious journals all around the world. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For: Web Searching as Query Refinement was the subject of his Ph.D. dissertation, which looked into Web user search patterns. Michael worked with clients in the high-tech, media, and telecom industries on strategy, innovation, and product development, IT, sales and marketing, mergers and acquisitions, and organization as a McKinsey consultant. He also serves on the board of directors of the Asia Society of Northern California. Michael served as the city of Bloomington, Indiana's first chief information officer, where he re-architected the enterprise architecture using open source technologies and led a project that saw Bloomington become the world's first community to offer both live and archived video streaming of public meetings on the Web. Michael was formerly the founder and executive director of HoosierNet, Inc., a nonprofit cooperative Internet service provider that provided individuals, NGOs, governments, and companies with dial-up and broadband Internet access. Michael works at the San Francisco office of McKinsey & Company.
