Melanie Richards Griffith is an actress who has been on stage and in television shows, as well as a film producer. She began her acting career in the 1970s, starring in a number of small thrillers before breaking into the mainstream in the mid-1980s. Melanie began her career opposite Gene Hackman in Arthur Penn's film noir Night Moves after graduating from the Hollywood Professional School at the age of sixteen. She became well-known after starring as a pornographic actor in Brian De Palma's thriller Body Double (1984), for which she won a National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Supporting Actress. Griffith's second performance in the comedy Something Wild (1986) received critical praise before she was cast in the 1988 film Working Girl, which earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress and a Golden Globe nomination. Griffith received Golden Globe nominations for her performances in Buffalo Girls (1995) and Marion Davies in RKO 281 (1999), as well as a Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Actress for her performances in Shining Through (1992) and Crazy in Alabama (1999) and John Waters' cult film Cecil B. Demented (2000). Pacific Heights (1990), Milk Money (1994), the neo-noir film Mulholland Falls (1996), Charlotte Haze in Adrian Lyne's Lolita (1997), and Another Day in Paradise (1998) are among her other credits (1998). She went on to play Barbara Marx in The Night We Called It a Day (2003) and spent the bulk of the 2000s on shows including Nip/Tuck, Raising Hope, and Hawaii Five-0. Following her theatrical debut in London, she made her Broadway debut in a production of the musical Chicago in 2003, to rave acclaim. Griffith returned to cinema in the 2010s, appearing with former spouse Antonio Banderas in Autómata (2014) and serving as an acting teacher in James Franco's The Disaster Artist (2017).
