Max More Biography

Max More is a philosopher and futurist who focuses on advanced decision-making in the context of new technology. He publishes, talks, and consults on the subject. More was born in Bristol, England, and graduated from Oxford University's St Anne's College with a degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (1987). His doctoral dissertation, The Diachronic Self: Identity, Continuity, and Transformation, from the University of Southern California in 1995, looked at several issues that transhumanists are concerned about, including the nature of death and what it is about each individual that persists despite great change over time. Max More, the founder of the Extropy Institute, has authored several papers advocating transhumanism and transhumanist extropianism, most notably his Principles of Extropy. He coined the term transhumanism in its modern sense in his 1990 essay Transhumanism: Toward a Futurist Philosophy. Max More was named president and CEO of the Alcor Life Extension Foundation in January 2011, after joining the company in 1986.
