Mary Lee Kennedy Biography

In 2013, Mary Lee Kennedy, a globally recognized leader in the library field, was elected Chief Library Officer of the New York Public Library. She will be in charge of advancing the Library's digital efforts as well as boosting the research and circulating divisions. Prior to joining the New York Public Library, Kennedy served as Senior Associate Provost at Harvard University, where she oversaw one of the world's largest research library networks. Kennedy oversaw programs and activities related to Harvard objectives, including open access and scholarly communications, digital scholarship, online learning, and collection growth and administration. She was formerly the Executive Director of Knowledge and Library Services at Harvard Business School, where she was also a member of the Presidential Task Force charged with developing a 21st-century strategy and structure for the university's 73 libraries. She has ten years of expertise in the information technology industry, with seven of those years spent as the leader of Microsoft's knowledge network group. She graduated from the University of Alberta with a B.A. and Louisiana State University with an M.L.S.
