Mary Ellen Hannibal's career started off as a firmly bookish one, as a New York magazine editor specializing in literary issues. She has been focused on science and the environment for the past 20 years or more, now based in California. She sees it as her responsibility to grasp the science and then explain it to a wider audience. This usually entails placing science within the context of art and literature. But she's always looking for a logical method to get past the artificial divisions that have put us on a collision course with nature. She contributes to Bay Nature, The San Francisco Chronicle, The New York Times, Nautilus, Science, Anthropocene, and a variety of other media, in addition to my books.
