About Marky Ramone

Marky Ramone Biography

Marky Ramone is best known for his 15 years as the renowned Ramones' drummer. Prior to joining the Ramones, Marky was a member of the Brooklyn-based hard rock band Dust, where he collaborated with a wide range of notable performers. Richie Wise (guitar and vocals) and Kenny Aaronson (bass) recorded two albums for Neil Bogart's Karma Sutra/Buddha label. Marky began hanging out at Max's Kansas City when Dust was disbanding, where he met Max's house D.J. Wayne County. Wayne County and The Backstreet Boys were formed when he teamed up with Wayne. Many admirers were drawn to Wayne's wild theatrical performance and cross-dressing. They decided to move on after a year and a half of playing in the New York region and failing to attract record industry interest. Richard Hell was introduced to Marky in 1976. They created Richard Hell & the Voidoids with Bob Quine and Ivan Julian. The Voidoids' revolutionary debut album, "Blank Generation," was released on Sire Records in 1977. Marky found himself at CBGB's bar with Dee Dee Ramone shortly after the Voidoids' famous U.K. tour with The Clash. Dee Dee approached him and asked if he wanted to join The Ramones. Marky joined the Ramones in the spring of 1978. In a few of weeks, Johnny was in the studio with The Ramones, recording "Road to Ruin," which includes one of the band's most well-known songs, "I Wanna Be Sedated." The Ramones released the cult classic "Rock 'n' Roll High School" the following year. Later that year, they recorded "End Of The Century" with legendary producer Phil Spector. Marky was asked to leave the band in 1983 after numerous tours and two more studio albums, only to rejoin his bandmates in 1987 until they decided to call it quits in 1996. He was a member of the Ramones for a total of 15 years. Over 1700 concerts and 15 albums later, the band has composition credits on both Mondo Bizarro and Adios Amigos, their last release. Marky reconnected with long-time pal Joey Ramone in 2000 for Joey's solo album "Don't Worry About Me." In 2001, Marky was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside his old bandmates (Johnny, Dee Dee, and Tommy). Bono of U2 awarded the Ramones with the MTV Lifetime Achievement Award the same year. "Raw," a DVD compilation of largely home films recorded mostly by Marky, was released in 2004 and reached number 5 on the Billboard video list. The best-selling Ramones DVD release to date certified gold in three countries. Blitzkrieg by Marky Ramone Marky debuted a capsule collection apparel line with Hilfiger Denim in the spring of 2009. In 2010, Marky released Marky Ramone's Brooklyn's Own Pasta Sauce, which included his pasta sauce recipe. The Ramones were honored with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in February 2010. It was the punk rock pioneers' first Grammy. Marky Ramones Blitzkrieg and Michale Graves released their debut song "When We Were Angels" in early 2010, with Mark Neuman, a former member of Sheer Terror, performing bass and guitar. Marky Ramone's Blitzkrieg, which has numerous lead vocalists such as Andrew W.K. and Michale Graves, continues to tour the world with no signs of slowing down. Marky Ramone's Punk Rock Blitzkrieg is now in its ninth year on SiriusXM Satellite Radio, where he hosts "Marky Ramone's Punk Rock Blitzkrieg." Marky has also featured on The Simpsons, Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations, and ZRock, among other shows.
