Mario Bosquez Biography

His 28-year career includes work as an anchor and reporter at Fox Five and WCBS2 Television stations in New York, making him the first full-time Mexican-American news anchor in New York City English television.

His life and career have been a study in contrasts. For years, Mario worked on television while living in a government-sponsored home; struggling to support his family.

Mario’s book, “The Chalupa Rules”, published by Plume, shares insights inspired by traditional Spanish proverbs, his own rules-of-life, and colorful folkloric art.

Mario speaks to students and organizations about education and breaking the cycle of low self-esteem that results from domestic violence, abuse, and poverty.  He also works as a standup comic and playwright and has appeared in “Latinologues” on Broadway as a featured/guest performer.

The Emmy-nominated broadcast journalist was recognized by the city of New York for his contributions to the media and has received numerous other awards.  His work includes live coverage of the World Trade Center disaster, Pope John Paul’s trip to Cuba and the 1999 earthquake in Colombia. Mario was honored by President George Bush Sr. and Americares for his work in covering the Colombia Earthquake.
