Maggie Nichols Biography

Maggie Nichols is a collegiate artistic gymnast for the University of Oklahoma in the United States. She was the eighth NCAA gymnast to accomplish a Gym Slam, the first for the University of Oklahoma, and the first to do it twice. Nichols previously competed for the United States in international events, winning a gold medal with the American team and an individual bronze medal on floor exercise at the 2015 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships. In 2014, she won bronze medals in the all-around, uneven bars, and floor exercise at the USA Gymnastics National Championships, and silver in the all-around in 2015. She was a strong candidate for the U.S. women's gymnastics team at the 2016 Summer Olympics before suffering a knee injury in early 2016. Nichols was awarded the 2019 NCAA Inspiration Award on December 13, 2018, for coming forward as Athlete A (the first to report former USA Gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar to USA Gymnastics) and openly addressing the sexual assault she experienced. She was one of two 2019 winners, along with current NFL player Shaquem Griffin, who excelled at UCF despite only having one hand.
