About Lucero

Lucero Biography

Lucerito was born on August 29, 1969 in Mexico City. Since an early age, she had the characteristics of an artist. At age 10, Televisa offered her the opportunity to try out for a new kid's television show called "Alegria de mediodia." She joined many other talented children on the show.

She balanced her work and her academic studies. In addition to acting, she began taking dance classes to develop more self-confidence on stage. During the same time period, she served as the theme singer of the program "Juguemos a cantar." Thanks to these opportunities, she received various offers from different programs, one of which was "Chiquilladas," where she performed her first leading role in a children's series, which was very successful.

In 1982, she made her soap-opera debut on "Chispita," performing with great actors like Enrique Lizalde and Angelica Aragon among others. As of that moment, her career appeared to have a great future. Because of this, Raul Velasco, invited her to sing the theme of an international program "America, esta es tu cancion," alongside 19 representatives from all over the world.

Movie producer Daniel Galindo hired her to appear in "Coqueta," making her movie debut. Lucerito followed this up with several other films, starring alongside celebrities like Luis Miguel, Pedro Fernández and Manuel Mijares. In 1982 she started recording her first album called "Te prometo." She followed her debut up with "Con Tan Pocos Anos," "Fuego y Ternura" and "Un Pedacito de Mi," revealing herself as an important young singer.

With the desire to improve in 1986, she collaborated with Melody and released the album "Lucerito," which produced the hits "Millones mejor que tu," and "Vete con ella."

The year 1988 brought great changes. Her voice was not that of a child anymore. She had become a splendid woman and Lucerito transformed into Lucero. She kept climbing steps in the ladder of her career as a singer. Lucero recorded several LPs such as "Cuentame," "Solo pienso en ti" and "Con mi sentimiento." Each record went Gold or Platinum, and her hits reached No. 1 on the Hit Parade List.

Lucero's next album firmly established her place in the music industry, especially in the American, Spanish and South and Central American markets. After conquering the teen market with ballads and pop music, Lucero revealed another side of her versatile career. She took up Mexican Folk Music and started singing the hits of famous groups such as the Bukis, The Yonic's and Bronco among others.

In 1993, she released her self-titled pop album, which was produced by the famous composer Rafael Perez Botija. Songs like "Veleta" and "Sobrevivire se" shot to No. 1 on the radio. The same year, she starred in her third soap opera, "Los Parientes Pobres," which was a hit.

In 1995 Lucero surprised everyone starring the soap opera called "Lazos de Amor," starring as all three main characters -- identical triplets. The show reached No. 1 in Mexican TV ratings. For her performance, she was awarded with El Heraldo, Eres Award Magazine, Estrella de Plata and ACE Award for best performance and best soap-opera of that year.

In 1997, after touring America, she released a completely new pop album called "Piel de Angel," which showcased a remarkable interpretative strength. That October, Lucero was asked to sing to His Holiness John Paul II, during the second encounter of families in Maracana. In December, she caught Mexico's and other countries' attention while conducting 27 uninterrupted hours of a telethon created to raise funds to build a rehabilitation center for the handicapped. She still participates in this telethon every year.

In March 1998, she recorded a new ranchero album, "Cerca de ti," working under the production of mariachi producer Ruben Fuentes. The album reach No. 1 with amazing singles like "Corazon lastimado" and "El milagro." With high sales in America as well, she took home a Billboard Award for the album.

In 2000 Lucero released "Mi Destino" and also starred in the soap opera "Mi destino eres tu." It reached first place in worldwide ratings. In 2002 she released "Un Nuevo Amor." In March 2003, she starred as Regina in "Un musical para una nacion que despierta." She appeared in more than 100 show, and the play was attended by more than 100,000 people

In 2004 Lucero played Esperanza in "Zapata -- The Hero's Dream" with Alejandro Fernandez and under the scene direction of Alfonso Arau and photography by Vitttorio Storaro, who has won 4 Oscars. She also released the album "Cuando sale un lucero."

In 2005 Lucero returned to the soap operas set starring in "Alborada," set in the 1800s. "Quiereme tal como soy" was a pop ballad album she released in 2006, and in March 2007, she recorded a live album from the Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City.

"Manana es para siempre" premiered in October 2008, which brought Televisa incredibly high ratings. Due to Lucero's popularity and credibility with audiences, she was hired by Procter & Gamble to be the image and spokesperson of the line of beauty products for Olay. With the incredible response of the international audience, the contract was renewed over and over.

Lucero is also a spokesperson for Pantene and Mexico's State Government. From 2006 on, Lucero has been the main hostess of the Latin Grammy Awards, Latin Grammy Celebra, Navidad desde el Baticano, and Fiesta Mexicana for Mexico's Independence day celebration.

In 2010, she starred in "Soy Tu Duena." The same year, she released the album "Indispensable." In 2011 she released another ranchero album called "Mi Secreto de Amor" with amazing covers such as "Costumbres" and "Te sigo amando." She also became one of the four coaches on the reality show "La voz mexico," where she supported Mexican talent and hit first place in international ratings.

She starred in the lead role of "Por Ella Soy Eva" in 2012 next to Jaime Camil and an amazing cast. The same year she released "No me dejes ir," a song she wrote and produced to promote this soap opera, and it immediately became a musical hit in Mexico and the US.
