Lubna S. Olayan Biography

Lubna S. Olayan is the CEO and Deputy Chairman of Olayan Financing Company (OFC), the parent company for The Olayan Group's Gulf trade, real estate, investment, consumer, and industrial businesses. When Ms. Olayan was elected to the board of Alawwal Bank in 2004, she became the first woman to serve on the board of a Saudi publicly traded firm, and she presently serves as the board's Vice Chairman. She has been a member of the Schlumberger board of directors since 2011, and she joined the board of Ma'aden, a Saudi public business in the mining industry, in 2016. She previously served on the board of WPP plc from 2005 to 2012. Ms. Olayan also serves on the advisory boards of Rolls Royce, Akbank, Allianz SE, McKinsey & Co, and Bank of America Merrill Lynch, among others. She is now a trustee of the Asia Business Council and the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). Ms. Olayan is the chairwoman of Alfanar, a UK-based charity that is one of the Arab world's first venture philanthropy organizations. She also serves on the board of the Saudi Arabian Down's Syndrome Charitable Association. Ms. Olayan was named one of Time's 100 most important persons in the world, and she has been on Fortune's list of Most Powerful Women for several years; she was also named an influential business leader by Forbes. Her Majesty the King of Sweden, Carl Gustav XVI, bestowed upon her an honorary Doctor of Laws (LLD) from Trinity College, Dublin, as well as the insignia of Member First Class of the Royal Order of the Polar Star. Ms. Olayan has a bachelor's degree in science from Cornell University and a master's degree in business administration from Indiana University. She and her husband, John Xefos, live in Riyadh and are the delighted parents of three kids.
