Lawrence Hoffman Biography

Lawrence Hoffman began his career with the New York City Police Department in 1984. He was assigned to the Brooklyn North Task Force and the 94th Precinct. He spent eight years patrolling the streets of Brooklyn before being assigned to the Auto Larceny Unit and the Dignitary Protection Unit. Lawrence was then assigned to the Brooklyn North Tactical Narcotics Teams (TNT), later renamed Street Narcotics and Guns (SNAG), where he was promoted to Detective. He was frequently able to turn simple street arrests and firearm investigations into large cases, and he collaborated with Federal Agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, as well as Firearms (ATF). One inquiry resulted in the arrest of over 20 people, the recovery of over 20 weapons, the seizure of large amounts of heroin, crack, and cocaine, and the dismantling of a violent Dominican Republic-based narcotics operation that terrorised Brooklyn neighbourhoods. His cases prompted Federal Investigations, which helped advance Lawrence to the Organized Crime Investigation Division (OCID), in which he would work in the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force, a federally funded programme. Lawrence investigated high-level narcotics trafficking throughout the United States and the Caribbean in collaboration with federal agencies such as the DEA and FBI. Lawrence retired from the NYPD after 20 years of service, having received 23 department awards. Larry has been a consultant with NY Finest Speakers since 2008. He now lives in Florida and is the author of the non-fiction book Turning Blue: A Life Beneath The Shield. He also works for Hillsborough County Code Enforcement.
