She was hired in 2016 to teach director Kenny Leon American Sign Language as he prepared the Broadway production of Children of a Lesser God after quitting her previous position to care for her two young children. After months of collaboration, Kenny and the producers came to the conclusion that Ridloff was the best and only option for the starring role. She accomplished it with great success, garnering several glowing New York Times reviews and a Tony nomination. She quickly rose to the position of series regular on the venerable AMC drama The Walking Dead. Later, she made history as the first Deaf superhero in Marvel's international smash film Eternals, which starred Angelina Jolie and Kumail Nanjani. The 2020 BAFTA Breakthrough award, given to the most promising actors and actresses in cinema and television, was given to Ridloff. She splits her time between Brooklyn and Atlanta.
