Laura Richardson Biography

Brigadier General Laura J. Richardson raised in Colorado and graduated from Metropolitan State College in Denver as a Second Lieutenant Aviation Officer. After flight school, Brigadier General Richardson's first assignment was with the 17th Aviation Brigade in Korea, where she served as a Platoon Leader, Company Comander, Company Executive Officer, and Brigade Staff Officer. She then served on the III Corps Staff and as a Company Commander and Brigade Adjutant in the 6th Cavalry Brigade at Fort Hood, Texas. After leaving Texas, she was appointed to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, where she worked as an Observer Trainer at the Battle Command Training Program before attending the U.S Army Command & General Staff College. Brigadier-General Richardson was then appointed to the 101st Airborne Division (Air assault) at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, to work as the Operations Officer as well as Executive Officer of the 9th Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment, an attack helicopter battalion. She was then chosen to be Vice President Al Gore's Military Aide in Washington, District of Columbia. Laura then decided to return to Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and the 101st Airborne Division (Air assault), where she worked as Division Deputy Operations Officer before becoming Commander of the 5th Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment, an attack helicopter battalion that deployed to Iraq in assistance of OPERATION IRAQI Independence. Regarding battalion command, she was assigned to the Pentagon on the Army Staff in the G3/5/7, where she worked as Deputy Director, and later Director, of the Army's Transformation Office. Just after the Pentagon tour, she visited the Armed Forces Industrial College at Fort McNair in Washington, District of Columbia. She went on to serve as the Army's Liaison Officer to the U.S. Senate after this instruction. Brigadier-General Richardson's military training included the Aviation Officer Basic to Advanced Courses, the Army Rotary Wing Course, the Airborne School, the Air Assault School, the United States Army Command, the UH-60 Blackhawk Course, and General Staff College, as well as the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. Air Medal (seven), Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Meritorious Service Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Bronze Star Medal, and Joint Service Commendation Medal are among her awards and ornaments.
