It's changing ethnic composition, dietary preferences, clothes, music, and people's overall perceptions of themselves and their way of life. Kip Fulbeck has been featured on CNN, MTV, and NPR, to name a few, as the world's foremost artist celebrating multiracial identities. Fulbeck is an award-winning filmmaker, musician, novelist, and Professor / Director of Arts at UC Santa Barbara. His new novel, Part Asian, 100 percent HAPA, has received critical acclaim. Fulbeck confronts media images and interracial dating trends, using his own multiracial experience as a springboard, to encourage people to question how our own ethnic assumptions and views on cultural identity are shaped, prompting us to frankly consider, Who Am I? Kip Fulbeck challenges media imagery of Asian men, interracial relationship habits, and symbols of race and sex in the United States, using his own Cantonese, English, Irish, and Welsh history as a springboard, continually asking where Hapas belong in a country that ignores multiraciality. His work encourages and inspires audiences to consider how our own ethnic assumptions and perspectives on interracial dating, gender norms, and personal identity forms. Kip Fulbeck is a Professor and Chair of Art at the University of California, Santa Barbara, as well as an associate faculty member of Asian American Studies and Film Studies. In addition to the Museum of Modern Art, the Singapore International Film Festival, the World Wide Video Festival, PBS, and the Whitney Museum of American Art Biennial, he has shown and displayed in over 20 countries and throughout the United States. He's spoken twice at the National Conference on Race in Higher Education to standing ovations, directed 13 independent films, and published the critically acclaimed books Paper Bullets: A Fictional Autobiography and Part Asian, 100 percent Hapa, which includes depictions of multiracials of Asian/Pacific Islander descent and a cameo by Sean Lennon.
