Many tragic events occurred during the Vietnam War, a little more familiar than the others. A picture of a young girl running naked down a street, her skin on fire with napalm, everlastingly completely transformed the way the world viewed the Vietnam War, as well as all wars. Phuc was sent to research in Cuba in 1986 and ultimately settled in Canada. When Soldiers decided to invite her to take part in a facility in Washington as part of a Veteran's Day adherence, Phuc made her appearance to help everyone else heal from the trauma of war. While there, she confronted and apologized to a military man involved in the bombings on that ill-fated day in 1972. The Girl in the Picture, a novel based on Phuc's amazing story, and Kim's Story: The Road from Vietnam, a documentary, have both been made. In light of Phuc's battle, she created a foundation to aid in the recovery of war wounds. The Kim Foundation is an independent organization dedicated to financial assistance that cures children in war-torn countries around the world. It is named after Phuc, who wishes to return what many others have given to her in the hope to contribute to her recovery. UNESCO assigned her as a Peace Ambassador in 1997.
