About Khaliya Aga Khan
Khaliya Aga Khan Biography
Khaliya is a public health specialist and neuro-technologist who is working to create radical solutions to the global mental health crisis. Khaliya, the World Economic Forum's Expert Counsel on the Future of Health and Healthcare's youngest member, is also an outspoken advocate as well as humanitarian. Khaliya received the Middelthon-Candler Peace Prize in 2016 and the Clare Booth Luce Award for International Service in 2017. Her conviction is that long-term peace and prosperity can only be accomplished if the basic necessities of health, both physically and mentally, are made available to those that need it. Khaliya co-founded Falkora, a non-profit mental health as well as neurotech initiative, and also the soon-to-be-released Tell Your Story app, in 2013. She is presently working on a book about the future of mental health, with a focus on new modalities like psychedelics and neurotechnology. Khaliya, a global pandemic expert with a background in computer science, sees mental health as one of the most pressing social issues of the twenty-first century. In addition to campaigning to broaden the definition of mental illness so that future funding can keep pace with the scope of the problem, the organisation is investigating how new technologies can leapfrog outdated approaches to mental health. She believes that technological advancements will not only reach a larger group of people in need in the United States, but will also reduce the cost of mental health tools globally, sparking a necessary paradigm shift in mental health care. Falkora's initiative contributes to putting multidisciplinary approaches to mental health at the top of the political agenda in the United States and around the world. Khaliya, who is actively involved in a number of social ventures, is an investor in and the head of strategic partnerships for Guardian Circle, an app that uses the power of crowdsourcing and social networks to keep people safe. Khaliya also serves on the advisory board of NeuroLaunch, the leading accelerator for neuroscience apps, and is the co-executive producer of Breadhead, an explosive documentary about the looming global epidemic of diet-related neurological disorder. Khaliya, a Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health graduate with honours, sits on the board of the largest private sector development network from 2006 to 2010 – work that took her to over 30 countries as a health specialist and as part of diplomacy delegations throughout Asia and Africa. Previously, Khaliya worked at the Council on Foreign Relations as part of a research team focused on infectious disease and national security, and she worked to negotiate lower-cost opportunism infections drugs for the YRG Care AIDS hospital in India. Khaliya started working as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Bulgaria during the country's difficult post-Communism transition period after receiving her B.A. with honours in European Studies and International Affairs from New York University. Khaliya was one of the first members of Venture for America's Board of Directors, and she continues to serve on their entrepreneur board. She also serves on the advisory council of post-natal care nonprofit Embrace, Nexus Global Youth Summit, as well as Charity Miles, an app that allows beginner runners & bikers to turn their exercises into fundraising events. Khaliya is a member of the Clinton Global Initiative's LEAD programme for young change makers, and she has spoken on health issues at The White House's United States of Women Summit, The World Economic Forum Family Business Summit, The PSI Maverick Collective Meeting at the Palace of Their Royal Highnesses the Crown Prince and Crown Princess of Norway, The Near Future Summit, The American Public Health Association Annual Meeting, Clinton Global Initiative University, Nexus, as well as the Clinton Global Initiative University.
