Kerby Jean-Raymond is an American fashion designer and founder of the menswear label Pyer Moss. Since he founded Pyer Moss in 2013, he focuses the label’s efforts on the black American experience and social justice. From sparkly beaded gown showing a black father holding his newborn to imprinted tees that read “Stop calling 911 on the culture.” At first, he faced backlash for his bluntness, but today Jean-Raymond he’s a sought after designer. In November 2018, he won the $400,000 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund and has worked with popular brands like Moet Hennessy, Fubu and HBO. His Reebok partnership birthed apparel collections and a sneaker deal. During New York Fashion Week, Jean-Raymond’s presentation of Pyer Moss' Spring 2016 Menswear Collection made him famous. Citing the 'Black Lives Matter' movement through the use of fashion, video and street art, the show brought attention to police brutality. His featured collection which was a collaboration with activist and R&B singer, Erykah Badu was titled Double Bind. Erykah Badu was in charge of styling the Pyer Moss AW16 line for the 2016 New York Fashion Week show. In the menswear category in 2014, Pyer Moss, his fashion brand, won the FGI Rising Star Award and in the same year, he was a finalist in the DHL Exported Prize presented by IMG Worldwide. In 2015, he was recognized by the Fobes 30 Under 30 list. Jean-Raymond uses fabrics like Italian lamb skin, wool and microfiber to create classic black and white microfiber men’s shirt spotting long triangular cut-outs on white tops when styling Usher's live performances.
