Kent Thiry Biography

Since DaVita HealthCare Partners Inc. was bought by DaVita in 2012, Kent Thiry has served as co-chairman and CEO. Mr. Thiry was the chairman and CEO of DaVita Inc for 13 years before that. DaVita is one of the most well-known kidney care companies in the United States, and it now serves dialysis patients all around the world. DaVita employs 45,000 people who care for 149,000 patients in 2,700 locations across the United States, as well as more than 30 dialysis centers in nine countries. DaVita sees itself first and foremost as a community, and then as a business. Our colleagues have started hundreds of goodwill initiatives that promote our Mission, reflect our Core Values, and aim to improve the standard of living for our patients, each other, and individuals in communities throughout the world as residents of the "DaVita Village." Harvard, Stanford, Kellogg, and Vanderbilt business schools, UCLA, University of Michigan Ross School of Business, Denver Public Schools, the Wall Street Journal, and Modern Healthcare are currently discussing DaVita's leadership philosophy and particular methods. From 1987 until 1991, Mr. Thiry was a partner with Bain & Company. Mr. Thiry received his B.A. in Political Science from Stanford University in 1978, with honors and Phi Beta Kappa. In 1983, he received his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, where he was also admitted to the Century Club. He is a member of the Trust for Public Land's board of directors. Chairmanships (non-executive) of Oxford Health Plans, Varian Medical Systems, PPOM (a private PPO), and members of the Harvard Business School Board of Advisors are among his previous board positions.
