Ken Powell is the chairman and CEO of General Mills, which develops and distributes major brands such as Cheerios, Häagen-Dazs, Pillsbury, Betty Crocker, Green Giant, Nature Valley, and Yoplait as one of the world's top food businesses. Powell began his career with General Mills and worked his way up through the ranks. He has spent more than a third of his career abroad in the United States, and in 1990 he assisted in the formation of Cereal Partners Worldwide (CPW), a joint venture between the business and Nestlé located in Lausanne, Switzerland. He returned to the United States in 1996 to take over as president of Yoplait USA, and in 1997 he was elected head of General Mills Big G cereal division. Powell returned to Switzerland in 1999 to take over as CEO of CPW, where he assisted in the growth of the joint venture into what is today a $2 billion worldwide cereal industry with operations in more than 130 countries. Powell was named president and chief technology officer of General Mills in 2006, having ultimate responsibility for the company's global operations. In September 2007, he was named CEO, and in May 2008, he was named Chairman. General Mills is often ranked among the world's most successful corporations. General Mills, for example, was voted America's Most Reputable Company by Forbes magazine in 2012.
