Since his meeting as the twentieth conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra in 1995, Keith Lockhart has greatly expanded the orchestra's activities and appeal. During his 16-year tenure, he performed the Boston Pops in over 1,300 music events and pioneered the JazzFest & EdgeFest series, which featured prominent jazz as well as indie performers able to perform with the Pops. Lockhart conducted the Boston Pops in the pregame show of Super Bowl XXXVI in New Orleans in Feb 2002, the very first moment an orchestra had ever performed at this occasion. Lockhart has aimed over 600 concerts and generated 56 tv programs. He directed 35 new programmes for PBS's Night at Pops, the yearly July Fourth celebration, and Vacation at Pops, which is broadcasted on A&E. Lockhart made his Boston Lyric Opera comeback as Tosca in March - April of 2004. He has also made his New York Chamber Symphony, Houston Symphony, as well as New Japan Philharmonic debuts. On New Year's Eve, Lockhart conducted the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester in Berlin, as well as the Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam in June 2003. Prior to joining the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Lockhart worked as an assistant conductor with the Cincinnati Symphony and the Cincinnati Pops symphonies. He has also served as music director of the Utah Symphony for the previous 5 years. Lockhart conducted the Utah Symphony during the Opening Exercises of the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City in 2002. He kicked off the 2002-03 Saint Louis Symphony period with a gala concert featuring cellist Yo-Yo Ma as the solo artist. Lockhart and the Boston Pops Orchestra have published eight albums, along with the widely praised My Favorite Things-A Richard Rodgers Celebration and Also the Latin Album, which was nominated for Best Pop Instrumental Album at the 2001 Latin Grammy Awards. Lockhart served as Music Director of the Utah Symphony from 1998 to 2009. He conducted the Utah Symphony during the opening ceremonies of the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. He took over as artistic director of the Brevard Music Center on October 1, 2007, after David Effron stepped down. Lockhart was named the BBC Concert Orchestra's 7th principal conductor with immediate impact in August 2010.
