Katty Kay is lead anchor for BBC World News America, where she covers the full gamut of American and global affairs, reporting on US elections, the White House, Congress, Wall Street, global economies and trouble spots around the world.

Kay's BBC career began in Zimbabwe in 1990 where she filed radio reports for the Africa Service of BBC World Service radio, covering such news as Zimbabwean land reform, the independence of Namibia and the fall of apartheid in South Africa.

Her exemplary reporting took her to London and later Tokyo, covering stories such as the Kobe earthquake, the gas attack on the Tokyo underground and the beginning of the Japanese economic recession. In 1996, she joined The New York Times Washington bureau until she returned to the BBC as the Washington Correspondent in 2002.

She witnessed and reported on the huge change in American policy and psyche brought on by the 9/11 attacks. One of her most vivid journalistic memories is of interviewing soldiers still visibly shaking from the attack right after a hijacked airplane flew into the Pentagon.

Kay is a frequent guest commentator on NBC’s Meet the Press, The Chris Matthews Show, MSNBC’s Morning Joe where she also frequently serves as guest co-host and others.

Katty Kay is the co-author (along with Claire Shipman) of two New York Times bestsellers, the latest being The Confidence Code: The Science and Art of Self-Assurance — What Women Should Know. In it, they make the case that confidence has roots in genetic hard-wiring but also comes by choice: less people-pleasing and perfectionism and more action, risk-taking and fast failure.
