Julie O'Keeffe Henszey has a unique perspective on life's journey and fulfillment. Her spirit of adventure has led her to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro and a determination to do 100 triathlons over the next two decades. Her capacity to cope with ambiguity has also allowed her to taste both success and failure in a variety of professional and personal endeavors, where she dips her toe and dives in. Julie's book, Big Goals, Small Steps, demonstrates her capacity to bring people face to face with their deepest desires as well as their greatest barriers. She thinks that regardless matter where we begin, we all have the capacity and time to act on our most treasured goals, wants, and aspirations. We have the ability to make significant improvements in every aspect of our life, she says. We can alter ourselves by setting large objectives and taking modest actions each day once we recognize that capacity within ourselves. Sacrifices and Decisions She has made choices and significant sacrifices as part of her own work to make the most of life, including living in Norway, Iceland, and Australia, mopping floors after receiving a Fulbright Scholarship, marrying, divorcing, raising two children, changing careers twice, leaving a secure job to start a business, and buying and selling houses. It wasn't always a pleasant experience. It was sometimes all about looking for the silver lining. It had always been about development and resiliency. Learning Opportunities, This event has fueled Julie's desire to help others. Her experiences provide teaching opportunities, and she offers strong ideas and resources to help others get started on their intended path. Many of these techniques are included in her book Ten Critical Strategies for Finding Fulfillment in a Hectic World. Outside of her storytelling, she recognizes that quack theory and pop psychology, sadly, dominate the self-help market. She commits to exclusively offer techniques and thoughts that have been developed from mainstream scientific discoveries by the scientific community. Her storytelling just serves to highlight scientific truths. Mentoring for triathletes, Danskin engaged Julie to oversee their triathlon mentor program in 2009 to help women from all walks of life accomplish their fitness objectives. 300 women learned skills, knowledge, and confidence in preparation for their first triathlon in the Chicago region. Julie was on there to congratulate each lady as she crossed the finish line. Julie spends her leisure time off the clock doing all of the things that come with being a parent, training for triathlons, and collecting camping gear. Her two teenage children amuse her while ignoring her personal growth ideas. Julie has been qualified by the International Coach Federation as an associate certified coach (ICF).
