Jonny Kim is a NASA astronaut and a distinguished United States Navy Reserve lieutenant. Kim will become the first Korean-American to travel to space while still awaiting his flight assignment. Kim was born in 1984 in Los Angeles, California. Kim discovered his calling in helping people.
He enlisted in the Navy at the age of 18 because he wanted to defend people who couldn't protect themselves. He discovered his interest in medicine while serving in the Iraq War as a Naval Special Warfare Medic, where he was impressed by the expertise and dedication of the doctors who saved his comrades' lives.
