Jon Oringer Biography

Jon Oringer founded Shutterstock in 2003 with thousands of his own digital photographs. A serial entrepreneur he recognized the need for licensable images at an affordable cost and created the first global subscription image marketplace. Jon built the original site from the ground up and still enjoys writing code. He holds an MS in computer science from Columbia and a BS in computer science and mathematics from Stony Brook. A New Yorker to the core Jon resides in the West Village is a certified commercial helicopter pilot and enjoys shooting film with his Mamiya 711 camera. In 2009 Oringer was selected 41st on the Silicon Alley 100 an annual list of the 100 most influential entrepreneurs investors executives and technologists in Manhattan. In 2012 Business Insider named Oringer the fifth coolest person in all of New York technology. In June 2012 Oringer was recognized as New York's Technology Entrepreneur of the Year by Ernst & Young.
