About Jon Connor
Jon Connor Biography
Jon Connor started producing and composing music at the age of ten. He started selling his own new music out of his backpack and the trunk of his mother's car when he was in middle school. At the age of fourteen, he founded his own individual record label, All Varsity Music, with the help of his mom. By the age of 16, Connor had funded and built an in-house studio with money he made from odd jobs around town. Connor released his 1st official mixtape, "The Calling, Pt. 1: The Prequel," in 2005. In 2006, he published another mixtape labelled "Everybody Hates Connor." In 2008, he published his third mixtape, "The Calling Pt. 2: The Second Coming." In 2009, he formed a record label with basketball player Mateen Cleaves, then afterward with basketball player Jason Richardson, as well as Kendall Young Sav Freeman, vice chairman of rapper Rick Ross' Maybach Music Group record label. All of those who presently run or co-own it. In 2010, Connor published his 4th mixtape, "Jon Connor as Vinnie Chase: Season One," which was influenced by the TV show Entourage. Connor and All Varsity Music producer Optiks worked together to create "Connor as Vinnie Chase: Season One." Connor published "Salvation," a collaborative project album with producer Rob Reef Tewlow, who has previously worked with 50 Cent & Bad Meets Evil. The album received good reviews from music reviewers. Salvation, according to HipHopDX's William E. Ketchum III, "undeniably demonstrates a truthfulness and appetite that are difficult to find in much of today's Hip Hop." If Connor persists to hone his current skill set, living up to his fictional namesake should just not be too far off. Connor published his 5th mixtape, "Season 2," at the end of 2011, as a follow-up to "Jon Connor as Vinnie Chase: Season One." GLC and Freeway both previously appeared on the remix. Within 3 months, the mixtape had 130,000 downloads on Bandcamp. Connor published "The Blue Album" in 2012, a mixtape in which he rapped over numerous Jay-Z tunes from the 3 "Blueprint" albums, "The Blueprint," "The Blueprint 2: The Gift & The Curse," as well as "The Blueprint 3." The name of the mixtape is also a play on words, referring to Blue City Club, a group he runs. Later that same year, Connor published "The People's Rapper LP," the 2nd instalment of his Best in the World album series, which featured him wholly rapping over classic Eminem tunes. Don Cannon executive produced and featured the mixtape, which also highlighted guest appearances by his Blue City Club colleagues. The People's Rapper LP received positive feedback, with HipHopDX's Andres Vasquez declaring it EP-worthy. Following the publication of "The People's Rapper LP," Connor went on tour with rapper Big K.R.I.T. in the Midwestern US. Connor disclosed in early 2013 that he was working on several projects, which include his debut studio album "Unconscious State," a collaborative project album with rapper Chris Webby, his 2nd studio album, and a collaborative project album with Ski Beatz. Connor published "Unconscious State" on All Varsity Music in mid-2013. Guest appearances on the album included Danny Brown, Freddie Gibbs, Chris Webby, Royce da 5'9, Smoke DZA, and Talib Kweli among others. Production was supervised by Connor, Brix, Mr. Porter, and Optiks, among many others. The album debuted at number thirty-five on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart in the US and number seven on the Billboard Heatseekers Music charts. In 2013, it was disclosed that Connor had recently been working with Dr. Dre in the studio. Connor told MTV that the two had instant chemistry in the production company, and after months of vibing in their, Dre signed Connor to his record company Aftermath Entertainment, which is dispersed by Interscope Records. On Sept. 29, at the end of his freestyle throughout a cypher at the 2013 BET Hip Hop Awards filming, Connor disclosed that he had agreed to sign with Dre's Aftermath Entertainment. Connor followed up his Best in the World series with the unexpected new album "The Late Registration of a College Dropout Who Had a Dark Twisted Fantasy of 808s and Heartbreak" in 2014. "The Late Registration of a College Dropout Who Had a Dark Twisted Fantasy of 808s and Heartbreak," like his other "Best in the World" remix, received reviews from music fans. Connor was selected to be a member of XXL's 2014 Freshmen Class.
