Johnny Herbert Biography

Johnny Herbert is famous and acknowledged in the history of Motorsport as one of the greatest all-round racing drivers. He’s also part of a distinguished group of British drivers to have relished a successful career in Formula 1. In 1974 at the age of 10, Johnny started his racing career by racing karts and his talent was noted. He was the British Junior Karting Champion in 1978. He moved into Formula 3 racing after advancing through the ranks. Johnny’s skills and speed started to attract attention following a successful debut and this led to Eddie Jordan taking him up for the 1987 season. He won the British Formula 3 title that year and that’s he made it into the world of Formula 1. Johnny was at the lead of racing throughout his remarkable career in F1 competing against some racing giants like Nigel Mansell, Damon Hill and Michael Schumacher. Winning the 1995 British Grand Prix was one of his greatest accomplishments during the ten year period of his career in F1. He was a popular face on the circuit as he competed for many different teams. Johnny has always been involved in a variety of motor racing and he succeeded in 1991 when he won the title for LeMans 24 Hours. In 2004, thirteen years later, he won the LeMans Series Championship showing he still had what it takes to be a talented competitor. Johnny continues to promote the car racing as an influencing member of Formula 1. He shows up as a regularly as a guest on racing shows and shares his experiences as well as his knowledge about racing. Herbert co-hosted the 2012 Chinese Grand Prix alongside Martin Brundle and he’s a regular contributor to the new Sky Sports F1 channel where he offers post-race analysis for the channel and often appears on the channel's devoted F1 show.
