Dower was the official maker of the Academy Award-assigned narrative. He has instructed at the University of Wisconsin–Madison and the University of California-San Diego. He has been an individual of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences since 1991 and was regarded with the American Historical Association's Award for Scholarly Distinction in 2013."
