John Varvatos is a modern high fashion menswear designer who is Greek-American. Varvatos founded his brand in late 1999 and debuted his first apparel collection in New York at the end of 2000. Belts, handbags, footwear, eyeglasses, watches, and perfumes are now part of the brand. John Varvatos built a standalone store in Soho in September 2000, only months after exhibiting his debut collection. The line is presently available at all John Varvatos stores, including the 315 Bowery location, which was once home to the underground music venue CBGB. The line is also offered in a limited number of premium retail outlets and specialist boutiques. John Varvatos was granted a license to design a line of high-end Converse sneakers in 2001, and the cooperation has lasted to this day.
