Jim Thomas Biography

Jim Thomas is a Washington, District of Columbia based attorney, writer, presenter, and instructor, as well as one of the country's most renowned and highly regarded negotiators. Mr. Thomas has spent a large part of his thirty-five-year law career having expertise in negotiation. His negotiating background includes acquisitions and mergers, international and domestic business transactions, international security, the surroundings, diplomacy and trade, labor relations, and a variety of other areas. Most of the Fortune 500 are among his clients, as are non-profit institutions, professional and trade affiliations, federal, condition, and local government organizations. He was a participant of the US negotiating team during the fruitful Intermediate Nuclear Forces (INF) talks with the former Soviet Union. The INF Treaty resulted in the first-ever reduction in total number of nuclear weapons in the world, with roughly half of all of these weapons eventually destroyed under its terms. Mr. Thomas is the creator of the Negotiate to Win® Workshop franchise, which is now one of the world's leading negotiating process training programmes since its inception twenty years ago. It has received numerous ASTD and NAPM prizes for expertise. Mr. Thomas’ book, Negotiate to Win, is a HarperCollins international hit which wa s first printed in late 2005. In 2006, it was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize and is now available in eighteen languages. He is the writer of multiple negotiating publications, a regular guest on television and radio, a regular broadcaster on CNN and MSNBC, and a famous presenter at companies, government, and affiliation conventions, meetings, and other occasions. Mr. Thomas works as a companion in a law firm in Washington dc and as a headmaster in a venture capital firm in California. He also sits on the board of many corporations and is on the academic staff of The Georgetown University Law Center as well as the Pacific Coast Banking School at the University of Washington. Mr. Thomas attended the University of California, LA, as well as the Georgetown University Law Center. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his offering as a United States Air Force helicopter rescue pilot in Vietnam. He and his wife, Jacqueline, divide their time between Washington, DC & Sunset Beach Island, North Carolina.
