Sey was a seven-time member of the US national team and the national champion in 1986. She announced her retirement from gymnastics before the 1988 Olympic Games. She wrote a book on her gymnastics career, Chalked Up: Inside Elite Gymnastics' Merciless Coaching, Overzealous Parents, Eating Disorders, and Elusive Olympic Dreams, which was released in 2008.
